BREAKING: NYSC postpones clearance and CDS due to planned nationwide protests

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the postponement of its monthly clearance and weekly community development services for corps members nationwide.

The move comes in anticipation of the nationwide protests scheduled to commence on August 1, themed “End Bad Governance in Nigeria,” which are set to run until August 10.

A memo distributed to State Coordinators, Local Government Inspectors (LGIs), and Zonal Inspectors (ZIs) across the 36 states of the federation outlined the suspension of these activities.

The memo stated that the biometric clearance and community development service (CDS) activities are deferred until further notice.

The memo read: “In furtherance to our earlier memo reminding corps members of the scheme’s policy prohibiting participation in any form of protest, all corps members are informed that biometric clearance and CDS activities are suspended with immediate effect. The date for the resumption of these activities will be communicated in due course.”

Corps members have been instructed not to wear their uniforms during this period. Instead, they are advised to attend to their duties in civilian clothing.

The NYSC stated that the decision is part of its commitment to maintaining unity and order, and reiterated that the scheme does not support participation in protests that might disrupt public peace.
