BREAKING: Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Names Deputy Governor

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has officially named Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami, a 2020 governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, as the Deputy Governor.

The nomination of Adelami is coming barely six hours after the state governor dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC) on Wednesday.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the name of the new deputy governor has been transmitted to the state House of Assembly for approval.

“His nomination will be announced by the House of Assembly later today,” the statement read.

Chief Adelami hails from Owo, Ondo state. He brings over six decades of experience and an impressive educational background, including degrees from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and the University of Lagos.

Adelami’s career spans decades in public service, starting as an Accountant II in the Federal Civil Service in 1983. Notably, he played a crucial role in setting up the Finance and Accounts Department of the National Assembly. His contributions led to key appointments, including heading the Finance and Accounts Department and later pioneering the Department of Procurement and Supplies.

One notable initiative is Chief Adelami’s establishment and continued support for the Music Department at the School of the Blind in Gindiri, Plateau State, empowering visually impaired children with musical skills.

Recall that following the death of the immediate-past governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and the subsequent swearing-in of Aiyedatiwa as governor, the deputy governor position has been vacant.
