Fuel Price Hike: Nationwide Protest Looms as South-East Leaders Take Stand on Tinubu Govt

South-East leaders under the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) are at odds with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration over the current fuel price hikes.

COSEYL is now agitating for a nationwide protest against the increment in fuel pump price to N617 per litre by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

In a statement on Wednesday, July 19, the coalition’s president general, Goodluck Ibem, described the hike as “wickedness” on the part of the government and lamented over the present hardship it has imposed on Nigerians.

In the statement, the coalition said Nigerians are “still battling with hardship to settle with the previous price of N520, President Tinubu, within two months in office, increased the same fuel price to N617”.

It, therefore, urged Nigerians, especially the youths, to “come out en masse for a protest against this evil and wickedness brought upon Nigerians by the present government. Nigerians can no longer breathe again in their own country.”

It added:

“The time to liberate Nigeria from her oppressors is now. We must march on the streets of the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja until the fuel price is reversed to its old price of N198 per litre.”
