The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, escaped death on Sunday, September 24, when his convoy was involved in an accident while leaving Osogbo, the state capital.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the accident was caused by a faulty tire on one of the vehicles in the convoy.
Four security operatives attached to the Speaker were injured in the accident, but Egbedun was unharmed.
The spokesperson of the speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, confirmed the accident, saying, “It occurred when the speaker was going out of Osogbo. Two of the security operatives have been discharged.”
An anonymous source revealed that the road accident was caused by a defective tire after its initial layer had been removed while in motion.
The source stated, “The vehicle hit that of speaker but with low impact. The speaker is safe but four of the security were injured and taken to a private hospital around Oke-Baale area of Osogbo where they are receiving treatment.”
