BREAKING: Osun State Assembly Summons Both Rectors of Iree Polytechnic Over Leadership Crisis

The Osun State House of Assembly has summoned the two rectors of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Mr. Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi and Dr. Tajudeen Adewale Odetayo, to appear before the House on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the House asked the two rectors to come with “necessary documents and other information that can assist the Honourable House in its oversight duties”.

The invitation was issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations for the House, ‘Laide Lawal.

The leadership crisis at the polytechnic began in July 2023 when Governor Ademola Adeleke suspended Odetayo over allegations of fraud. Alabi was appointed as acting rector, but the staff of the polytechnic faulted the governor’s decision.

Odetayo challenged his suspension in court and obtained an interim injunction restraining the governor from giving effects to the letter of suspension.

On Thursday, September 15, 2023, both Odetayo and Alabi resumed duty as rector of the polytechnic, causing confusion on the campus.

Subsequently, the state education commissioner, Hon. Dipo Eluwole, issued a statement announcing the shutting down of the school and freezing of its bank accounts.

The House of Assembly has now summoned the two rectors to appear before it to shed light on the leadership crisis and the closure of the school.

The invite reads, “In exercising its oversight responsibilities in line with Section 129 (1) (a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Osun State House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has directed the acting Rector and the immediate past Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Mr. Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi and Dr. Tajudeen Adewale Odetayo respectively to appear before the Honourable House on Tuesday, 19th September, 2023 by 11.00 am.”

“While coming, the two invitees should come with necessary documents and other information that can assist the Honourable House in its oversight duties,” it added.
