The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed Ambassador Umar Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
The decision was taken on Monday during the PDP’s 102nd NEC meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Damagum had been serving in an acting capacity since March 2023, following the suspension of former Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, a decision later upheld by the court. Prior to his appointment, he was the PDP Deputy National Chairman (North).
At Monday’s meeting, the NEC resolved that Damagum, should formally assume the position of substantive Chairman ahead of the National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Following the resolution, the party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, administered the oath of office to Damagum.
