Despite the growing crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the North East Zone of the party has endorsed the embattled national chairman, Umar Damagum.
This was disclosed in an announcement made by the governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, in a statement on Thursday, September 19,
Fintiri, on behalf of the PDP chapters in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states, said they were confident in the leadership style of Damagum since he assumed office.
The statement released by Fintiri’s chief press secretary also highlighted the restraining order which had been given by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
The court in its order ruled that Damagum would remain in office and complete the former national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu’s tenure. This can only be upturned by the court.
Commending members of the party who had kept fate with Damagum and all the current leadership of the party, Fintiri said the decision of the court is in the interest of the PDP, party members and the national democratic process.
The governor also pointed out that the PDP did well across North East states during the last elections.
Describing such a feat and unprecedented, Fintiri said the region deserves the position of National Chairman more than any other section in the North.
