
The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Nigeria ahead of his final burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
His remains arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina on Tuesday afternoon aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft.
The coffin was draped in the national flag.
The late president’s body was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and members of Buhari’s immediate family.
The aircraft touched down in Katsina at about 1:59 p.m., where it would eventually proceed for the final leg of his journey to Daura.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also arrived in Katsina to attend the burial.
Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London at the age of 81, served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
