BREAKING: Police officers, Whistleblower to face Panel over raid on Odili’s Home

The Police officer who led a raid on the home of Supreme Court Justice, Mary Odili will be facing a internal police panel to explain the circumstances behind the action.

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered an investigation into the Friday invasion of Justice Odili’s residence.

The Force Intelligence Bureau has already begun investigations into the matter. POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that several police officers and operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC stormed Odili’s residence in Maitama on Friday to conduct a ‘search’. The raid was based on a tip by a whistleblower, Aliyu Umar, that “illegal activities” were going on in the house.

The Security agents were empowered by a search warrant signed by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna. The warrant was filed by a body identified as the Joint Panel Recovery unit in the Ministry of Justice.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has denied ever ordering the raid. Chief Magistrate Iyanna has since revoked the warrant adding that he was ‘lied’ to.

Force spokesman, Frank Mba, in a statement on Monday, said the police leadership was not aware of the raid.

However, the panel members, leader of the operation, CSP Lawrence Ajodo, and the whistleblower, Umar, will face FIB investigators.

They are expected to tell police investigators more on the origins of intelligence that led to the raid.
