Pope Francis, the Bishop of Rome and Head of the Catholic Church has reacted to a deadly attack on a Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo state on Sunday.
He expressed his condolences for the victims of the terror attack which led to the deaths of over 50 people, including several children.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that as the Church celebrated Pentecost on Sunday, Gunmen entered the St. Francis Xavier Church and opened fire on worshippers.
The Pope “prays for the victims and for the country, painfully attacked at a time of celebration, and he entrusts everyone to the Lord, that God might send His Spirit to console them,” said Matteo Bruni, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, on Sunday.
Several others were seriously wounded and hospitals in the area are filled to capacity. Doctors have called for donations of blood as it is now in short supply in the area.
