Famous Islamic scholar and chairman Kano council of Ulamas Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, on Friday officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) weeks after dumping the rulling All Progressive Congress (APC), POLITICS NIGERIA reports.
Sheikh Khalil joined the party alongside a popular political scientist and analyst Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dukawa.
Ralph Nwosu, the party chairman, said Sheikh Khalil joined the party with eight professors “in order to rescue Kano from misgovernance ,drug abuse and begging”.
Sheikh Khalil is expected to contest for Governor of Kano state.
When he left the APC last December, he had told the BBC: “As an APC member and one of the elders and one of the caucus, I want to make sure I leave the APC.”
He added: “Everything in life has a reason. There are three reasons: either the educated and the intelligent know, or everyone knows, or the person himself knows the reason.”
The 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election will take place in early 2023, to elect the Governor of Kano State. Incumbent APC Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term. The primaries will be scheduled for late 2022 or early 2023.
