President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed Femi Gbajabiamila, the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, as his Chief of Staff.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that George Akume has been chosen to serve as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The president also appointed Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, as Deputy Chief of Staff.
President Tinubu made the announcement in a meeting with the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) on Friday.
A statement signed on Friday by the State House Director of Information, Abiodun Oladunjoye, titled ‘President Tinubu appoints Gbajabiamila COS, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, DCOS, George Akume, SGF’ also confirmed the appointments.
“In a meeting with Progressives Governors Forum, the President also named former Governor of Benue State and immediate past Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement read.
The appointments follow days of intense speculation surrounding these key positions.
Gbajabiamila’s selection as Chief of Staff suggests that he will not be returning to his seat in the House of Representatives, despite his recent reelection.
