BREAKING: President Tinubu appoints new management team for ICPC

President Bola Tinubu has appointed a new management team for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

In a statement, Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesman, said the appointments were made per the powers vested in the president by the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The new ICPC management team, pending Senate confirmation, is as follows:

  1. Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu — Chairman / Chief Executive Officer, ICPC
  2. Mr Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu — Secretary to the Commission, ICPC

The president’s decision to appoint a new Chairman comes alongside his approval of the outgoing chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave.

The outgoing chairman’s tenure will formally end on February 3, 2024, and his pre-end of tenure leave will commence on November 4, 2023.

However, the Secretary to the Commission position does not require Senate confirmation. Therefore, the appointment of Oparaodu takes immediate effect.

Aliyu, the nominated chairman, has a notable track record, having undertaken significant reforms as the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019. He holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Law and was recently designated as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in October 2023.

Oparaodu, the appointed Secretary, brings over 30 years of legal experience to the role. He has served commendably in the public sector, including as a Member of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.

President Tinubu urged the new ICPC management team to maintain the highest standards of integrity and impartiality as they fulfil their responsibilities, emphasizing their commitment to addressing all matters without bias.
