BREAKING: President Tinubu to Meet Opposition Lawmakers on Monday

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to meet with opposition Senators and House of Representatives members on Monday.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the meeting comes just days before the 10th National Assembly is inaugurated on June 13.

While the official agenda for the meeting has not been disclosed, it is widely speculated that the discussions will focus on strengthening the relationship between the Executive and Legislature.

Additionally, the meeting aims to streamline the process of electing leaders for the National Assembly.

According to an invitation sent to the opposition lawmakers and signed by Tijanni Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, on behalf of the President’s Chief of Staff, President Tinubu will meet with the senators at 3 pm, followed by a meeting with the members of the House of Representatives at 5 pm.

The lawmakers have also been urged to attend the meeting and provide their list for security clearance.

It should be noted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) recently announced its preferred candidates for key positions in the National Assembly.

The party endorsed Godswill Akpabio (South-South) and Barau Jibrin (Northwest) as Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively. Tajudeen Abbas (Northwest) and Ben Kalu (Southeast) were also endorsed as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

However, some members of the ruling party have voiced their opposition to the proposed zoning formula and have vowed to challenge the party’s choices for the various positions.
