Residents have taken to the streets of Jos, capital of Plateau State in a mass protest against the ongoing spate of killings allegedly perpetrated by suspected Fulani militants.
The protest was led by Christian leaders, including the Plateau State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Polycarp Lubo. Demonstrators gathered early in the day at Fwavwei Junction, obstructing traffic and leaving scores of commuters stranded.
The unrest follows a wave of deadly attacks across several communities in the state. In the past weeks, over 100 people have reportedly been killed in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas.
“We are not happy over the continuous attacks and killings by gunmen in our communities. That’s why we have come out again to protest these happenings,” said protester Gyang Dalyop, voicing the frustration shared by many in the crowd.
Another demonstrator, Hannatu Philip, urged authorities to take swift action. “The government must intervene before the situation spirals out of control,” she warned.
