Students of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State, have blocked the Akure-Illesa highway in protest over incessant bandit attacks on them outside the school campus.
Chanting solidarity songs during the protest on Friday, the students lamented the unending robbery attacks they face while living off the campus of the institution.
Politics Nigeria learn that the protest led to heavy gridlock on the expressway.
The students said they staged a protest to call the attention of the management of the institution, the government, and the security agencies to act to save them from the activities of the bandits.
According to Punch, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said men of the command had been deployed in the area to ensure the protest was not hijacked by hoodlums.
