Protesters on Monday briefly took control of an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) belonging to security operatives deployed to quell the riot in Kaduna State.
In the Tudun Wada Area of Kaduna South Local Government, young men were seen patrolling an APC belonging to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
Protesters sat on the tank, waving to the crowd as the siren blared.
A police source confirmed the APC belonged to Mobile Police 1, but clarified that protesters did not gain entry, only mounting it while policemen inside drove the vehicle to dismount them.
Police Public Relations Officer Mansur Hassan stated, “The protesters did not take over our APC; they only mounted it. The policemen in the APC had to use tactical maneuver to get the protesters off so that they would not damage it and it was safely returned.”
It should be noted that Governor Uba Sani has since declared a curfew in Kaduna metropolis and Zaria to check the excesses of protesters.
