BREAKING: “Releasing Nnamdi Kanu is Rewarding Criminality” – Asari Dokubo Tells Tinubu

Renowned Niger Delta leader, Asari Dokubo, has strongly opposed the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), asserting that it would amount to rewarding criminal behavior.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Kanu, who is currently facing terrorism charges, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021.

Back in 2017, a Federal High Court in Abuja had granted Kanu bail, but he willfully violated the conditions and subsequently fled the country. Despite mounting pressure for Kanu’s release, President Muhammadu Buhari had remained firm in resisting such demands. However, with a new administration in power, fresh calls for the IPOB leader’s freedom have emerged.

During his meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State had also joined in requesting for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Recently, following a conversation with President Tinubu, Asari Dokubo addressed reporters, expressing his belief that Kanu should be held accountable by the law.

Dokubo highlighted the potential dangers of releasing Kanu, citing his alleged involvement in aggravating the EndSars protests. According to Dokubo, Kanu had been freely roaming during the EndSars movement and had even exacerbated the situation.

Dokubo raised the question of the lives lost during the unrest, referring to Kanu as a criminal who should face the legal consequences of his actions.

“His release would fuel impunity; during EndSars, Nnamdi Kanu was walking free. What did he do? He poured petrol on the flames of EndSars. Now, he has been caught. What of the people who have died? This is a criminal. He should face the law.

“Releasing Nnamdi Kanu is rewarding criminality and rewarding gruesome murder of innocent people. He should face the law for the actions and instigations he has carried out,” he said.

This newspaper previously highlighted Dokubo’s assertion to Tinubu that the military and influential groups were responsible for rampant oil theft in the country.

Dokubo offered the assistance of his followers to combat and put a stop to it. He expressed his willingness to utilise his group of loyal supporters, known as “his boys,” to take the necessary actions to halt these nefarious activities.

  1. I believe President Asiwaju Tinubu should begin on a clean slate kn this matter. Before doing so, however, he should invite the Ohanaeze, IPOB leaders, prominent Igbo leaders like Chief Olisa Agbakoba, members of the top military rank, eminent traditional rulers from the core East, the Police, members of the diplomatic Corp and every Nigerian that are sympathetic to Kanu and Biafra’s cause to meetings. Then, he may release Kanu to them but let them know the implications.Thereafter, if he or his cronies engage in unwholesome activities that can threaten the existence of Nigeria, he should be arrested to face the consequences.

  2. Even if people are talking of criminality in Nigeria, Asari Domino is an original kidnapper in the Niger Delta region of in Nigeria. He is one of the founder of kidnapping in Nigeria. He is also a Muslim fanatic.

  3. The destiny of everything lies in the hands of God ,no man can prevail!

The almighty Titanic got sinked when the producers comments that nothing can sink the ship even God

  4. I said it last year, that criminals are taking positions in this criminal Administration. M. C. Oluoma is now the defacto prime minister of Lagos. Unfortunately for the loquacious Asari Dokugbo, the Sambalat and Tobia of Igboland, lamentations and anguish is now his portion. Shei he was boasting that he has dealt with Maxi Nnamdi Kalu? Asari how market naah?. So, for MNK to demand for the fair treatment of the Igbo is now a crime?? Or, even the demand for self determination in your own Law Book is a crime??? Good luck to you whose lot is the crumbs from the slave master’s table. But one day, Nnamdi Kalu will be free, to you and your generations shame, mark my words.

  5. Who actually is a criminal who ought to be in the guillotine? Is it Nnamdi Kalu who is fighting for the decades of injustices against the South East and even south south, or Asari Dokugbo who specializes in assassinations, killings and kidnappinggs? Anyway, Nigerians already know that Dokugbo is only seeking for notice but most unfortunate for him, none is coming. Who knows if he will ever come to his senses.

  6. Asari Dokugbo is the criminal who ought to face the guillotine, not just incarceration . Nnamdi Kalu is only fighting against the decades of injustices against the South East and South South brothers.
