Despite widespread criticisms, the military has insisted that the deradicalisation and reintegration programme of the federal government for Boko Haram members and other deadly terrorist groups is yielding results.
The chief of defence staff, General Christopher Musa disclosed this while speaking on security summit and townhall.
The defence chief maintained that not all those enrolled in the programme are combatants.
“It is working very well,” Musa defends deradicalisation of repentant criminals.
“Not all of them are combatants. Some were conscripted, enslaved…” he added.
General Musa noted that over 120,000 terrorists have surrendered to troops in the North-East.
On his part, a deputy inspector general of police, Dasuki Galadanci, said lack of manpower and inadequate funding are major problems facing the force.
A security consultant, Charles Omole, called for greater synergy between security agencies in the country in a bid to tackle the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
