A former lawmaker who represented Enugu North in the Nigerian Senate, Chuka Utazi has been suspended by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Utazi was suspended by the party in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state over allegations of anti-party activities.
In a letter addressed to Ugochukwu Agballah, the Enugu State APC chairman said Utazi’s suspension followed a petition against him from his ward in Nkpologu.
Signed by Chris Ajodo, Pius Diara and Albert Aniebonam; the Uzo-Uwani APC chairman, Secretary and Nkpologu ward chairman respectively, the letter claimed the former lawmaker has been involved in activities of the PDP including, attending their zonal meetings and endorsing Governor Peter Mbah for a re-election.
“These allegations were backed up by online video evidences as the case may be,” the letter said.
Copied to the leader of APC in the state, Uche Nnaji who is the Minister of innovation , Science and Technology, the officials said the LGA had set up a committee to investigate the allegations against the former lawmaker.
It said, “On receipt of the said complaint, the local government on 8/4/2025 setup a three-man disciplinary committee which notified the senator of the petition and duly invited him to appear before the disciplinary body.
“The invitation was however ignored by the respondent. The above notwithstanding, the committee carried out a thorough investigation of the allegations and came out with a verdict of “guilt”,”the letter added.
It also described the former lawmaker’s conduct as highly disappointing, repugnant and unbecoming of a bona fide member of APC.
According to the letter, the findings made from the committee’s investigations led to the suspension of Utazi by the APC.
