BREAKING: Rivers collation officer adjourns announcement over threat to life

Prof. Charles Adias, collation officer for the presidential election in Rivers state, on Tuesday, adjourned the collation of 2023 presidential election results over an alleged threat to his life by alleged Labour Party supporters.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Prof. Adias, the official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otueke, Bayselsa State, announced the adjournment this morning while addressing newsmen at the State Collation Centre in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Adias insisted that he won’t proceed to announce the results until the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Johnson Alalibo, addressed some of the issues those threatening him raised, including faulty Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

So far, results from 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) have been collated. Results are expected from two local government areas – Obio-Akpor and Degema.

Although the governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), did not openly declare his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), many believe he has directed residents of the state to vote for the opposition candidate.

His decision follows a fall-out with his party’s leadership over alleged injustice.
