Several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have filed a lawsuit against the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 24 other lawmakers.
The suit was filed at the Port Harcourt division of the Federal High Court on Friday.
The CSOs are seeking a court declaration to render the lawmakers’ seats vacant, following their defection from the PDP to the APC. The hearing of the matter has commenced, and our correspondent is monitoring the proceedings.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that at the court session, a drama ensued when two lawyers engaged in a heated argument over who would represent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the matter. The PDP had applied to be joined in the case, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) also sought to be joined as a party.
