BREAKING: Salami panel recommends Magu’s sack

President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to sack Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Justice Ayo Salami panel of Inquiry on the investigation of Magu made this known in its report submitted to the President on Friday at the Presidential Villa.

The panel, in its report, also asked the President to consider appointing the next Chairman of the EFCC from other security agencies or a core staff of the anti-graft agency. It also urged the president to appoint the new EFCC chairman in an interim position for two years.

According to the panel, it received 46 petitions and memoranda from individuals and organisations with complaints against Magu. The panel disclosed that Magu and 113 witnesses appeared and testified before the commission before concluding its probe.

The panel disclosed that it went on a nationwide physical verification of recovered forfeited assets, comprising real estates, automobiles, vessels, and non-cash assets.

Speaking on behalf of the panel, Justice Salami, however, expressed profound gratitude to the President for giving members of the probe panel a wonderful opportunity to serve the nation.
