FG once again restricts Emirates flight to Nigeria

Emirates Airlines had been operating daily flights to Abuja until Thursday, when the Federal Government withdrew clearance, resulting in just one flight per week.

Approximately a week ago, the Federal Government lifted the embargo on Emirates Airlines flights to Nigeria after banning the airline for several months owing to concerns about the United Arab Emirates carrier’s requirements in the administration of COVID-19. However, the FG appears to have changed their mind and once again set a limitation on the airline.

This was revealed in a letter from the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Musa Nuhu, dated December 9, 2021, addressed to the Country Manager, Emirates Airlines Nigeria, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The airlines are advised to adhere to the new directive as written in the letter headed “Withdrawal of Ministerial Approval of Emirates Airlines Winter Schedule”.

“This withdrawal becomes effective on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at 2300h. Please kindly note, henceforth, Emirates Airlines is granted approval to operate only one weekly passenger frequency to Abuja on Thursdays.

“Please be guided accordingly. Do accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

Copies of the letter were sent to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and the Director-General, General Authority of Civil Aviation, United Arab Emirates.
