BREAKING: Security Operatives Rescue Two US Embassy Staffs Kidnapped in Anambra

Two employees of the United States Embassy in Nigeria who were kidnapped in Anambra on Tuesday have been safely rescued.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the rescued individuals were among a group that came under attack by unidentified gunmen in the Ogbaru Local Government Area.

As reported previously in this publication, two embassy staff members, along with four policemen and a driver, lost their lives in the assault, resulting in a total of seven fatalities.

The assailants not only killed their victims but also set fire to some of the vehicles involved. In addition to the lives lost, two embassy staffers were taken hostage during the incident.

However, in a recent press statement released on Friday morning, the police confirmed that the kidnapped embassy employees were rescued earlier that day.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, announced the rescue in a press statement, stating, “In the early hours of today, 19/5/2023, the joint security forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy along the Atani/Osomalla road in the Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.”

Although no specific details regarding the rescue operation were provided, including the location or the current condition of the rescued victims, DSP Ikenga affirmed that operations were still ongoing.

He assured the public that further information would be communicated to the press in due course.
