The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of the Chief of Defence Staff and three service chiefs.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the confirmation was made during plenary on Thursday, after the Senate considered the request by President Bola Tinubu for the confirmation of the appointments.
The service chiefs who were confirmed are:
- Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff
- Maj. Gen. Taoheed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff
- Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogala, Chief of Naval Staff
- Air Vice Marshal Halidu Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff
The confirmation of the appointments of the service chiefs comes after President Tinubu wrote to the Senate on Monday, requesting that the Upper Chamber confirm the nomination of the service chiefs.
The Godswill Akpabio-led Senate had earlier hinted that the service chiefs would be screened on Thursday. This was after this newspaper learnt that some arrangements were being made inside the chamber, indicating that the screening may take place today.
