Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, the Majority Senate Leader, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), POLITICS NIGERIA reports.
Senator Abdullahi represents Kebbi North Senatorial District.
Abdullahi’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Muhammad Jamil Gulma, confirmed the move on Tuesday evening.
The lawmaker had participated in the APC governorship primary election in Kebbi State and reportedly scored zero votes, an outcome he rejected and described as “shambolic”.
This newspaper learned that the leadership of the APC at the national level tried to convince him to stay but to no avail.
In a piece of related news, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has announced his defection from the PDP to the APC.
Olaniyan, an Oke-Ogun-born technocrat cum politician, announced his defection recently while speaking with newsmen in his private office in the Ojoo area of Ibadan. According to him, his supporters prevailed on him to join the APC.
