Senate President Godswill Akpabio rushed to the Presidential Villa on Monday minutes after a rowdy session at the Senate over the screening of a ministerial nominee, Festus Keyamo.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the session was disrupted by shouts and jeers from senators who opposed Keyamo’s nomination.
Akpabio was spotted at the Villa at 2:55 pm with Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.
They reportedly left at 03:48 pm without addressing the press.
The senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha, had during plenary, moved a motion for the suspension of the ministerial screening of former Minister of State, Labour and Employment.
Nwokocha’s motion was seconded by a senator from Abia-South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio thereafter subjected the motion to a voice vote, but the lawmakers were divided on the matter.
The red chamber went into a rowdy session, leading to the Senate going into a closed-door session.
Nwokocha claim Keyamo was summoned in the 9th National Assembly to clarify matters pertaining to a Special Public Works programme during that time but failed to honour the invitation.
He also accuses Kayemo of levelling allegations of corruption against the previous administration.
