The election petitions tribunal sitting in Sokoto has ruled to dismiss the petition filed against Senator Aminu Tambuwal, who represents Sokoto South Senatorial District.
According to the court, the decision was based on the grounds of lacking merit.
All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa had approached the tribunal to declare him the winner and ask the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Tambuwal.
But, the tribunal dismissed the case and upheld the victory of Tambuwal, a former House of Representatives Speaker and the immediate past governor of Sokoto state.
Recall that a Federal High Court in Abuja had rejected the APC’s request to unseat Tambuwal earlier this year following his defection from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2023 elections.
Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo, in his ruling, cited previous Court of Appeal judgments that have invalidated similar requests on this matter.
