BREAKING: SSANU, NASU, NAATS block UNILAG gate as nationwide strike continues

Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAATS) of the University of Lagos are currently staging a peaceful protest in front of the school’s gate.

Punch reports that the striking workers blocked vehicular movement and hindered the free flow of traffic in the environment.

They also sang and displayed various placards to register their grievances with the Federal Government over their withheld salaries.

For about a month, SSANU and NASU leadership have been calling the government’s attention to its exclusion from the payment of the withheld salaries, which it commenced payment for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in February.

Their salaries were withheld when the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari invoked a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against the ASUU, SSANU, and NAATS, which embarked on a strike that lasted eight months, four months, and five-and-a-half months, respectively, in 2022.

However, NAATS also joined and began its three-day warning strike today.
