Embattled Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho, who was arrested and placed in detention at the Republic of Benin, has been returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou.
The Cour D’Appel De Cotonou, which was supposed to hear his trial today (Thursday, July 22, 2021), adjourned the case till Friday, July 23, 2021.
As reported on Politics Nigeria, Igboho, who fled an arrest in Nigeria, for forcefully driving Fulani herdsmen out of Oyo State over their alleged criminal activities, was apprehended by the Beninese government while on his way to Germany.
The activist and his wife, Ropo, were arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou.
He is facing charges in the country for obtaining a Beninise passport without being a citizen.
However, the activist’s wife iset for release tonight. “They just finished from court. The wife is to be released this night and Sunday is to remain in custody. The matter was adjourned till Friday,” an official disclosed.
