The Supreme Court on Monday affirmed Dauda Lawal as the bonafide governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the affirmation is coming five days to the March 11 governorship election.
Earlier, in January, the Appeal Court reinstated Lawal as the PDP gubernatorial flag-bearer in Zamfara State.
A high court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, had first nullified the primaries that produced Lawal. A former federal lawmaker, Ibrahim Shehu, had challenged Lawal’s election at the PDP primaries.
In its ruling, the appellate court set aside a judgment of the Federal High Court.
The matter dragged on to the apex court, which ruled in favour of Lawal today (Monday).
Reacting to the judgement, Lawal, in a statement by his media office, described the Supreme Court’s ruling as ‘a victory for democracy and the good people of Zamfara State’.
“This is a victory for the entire people of Zamfara yearning for good governance,” the PDP candidate said through a statement by his media office.
