Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has taken over as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the switch in leadership was unveiled at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, held at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
With this development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain takes over from his Ekiti State counterpart, Kayode Fayemi.
The Director of Media and Public Affairs of NGF, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, confirmed the change of baton in a statement.
According to him, Tambuwal will be ‘holding forth’ until May 2023 when a proper election will be conducted among the governors.
“Dr. Fayemi formally hands over the Chairmanship of the NGF to Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on the October 16th,” the statement reads in part.
Before his new role, Tambuwal served as Vice Chairman of the Forum under Fayemi for the last four years.
