About 50 people, including a district head, women, and children, have been abducted by bandits in Bagega, a mining village in Zamfara State.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that three others were killed in the attack, which occurred on Tuesday morning.
Residents of the village said that the bandits, who rode motorcycles, stormed the community and started shooting indiscriminately. They also set several houses ablaze.
The village head, Abubakar Uba, confirmed the attack to Reuters, saying that the bandits kidnapped the district head before seizing dozens of others in the village.
“They stormed the village on dozens of motorcycles, and their first stop was the district head’s residence,” Uba said. “A few of them took him away with three members of his household before they entered the town and unleashed more harm.”
All efforts to speak with the state police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, for his comments on the attack were unsuccessful.
