The Lagos state government has announced that three of the 256 evacuees from Dubai have tested positive for coronavirus. Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, made this known on his official twitter handle on Sunday.
According to the commissioner, the patients have been quickly moved to one of the isolation centres for treatment. Abayomi added that the positive evacuees were detected during the mandatory 14-day isolation in Lagos, which started since their arrival to the country on May 6.
He disclosed that the state will continue to adhere strictly to quarantine protocols and enforce necessary precautionary measures so as to contain the spread of the COVID19 infection.
Abayomi, however, urged Lagos residents and particularly those who recently returned to the country to cooperate with the state COVID19 response team as may be desirable at all times and in all circumstances. The development is coming days after a 32-year-old Dubai returnee died in the state on Monday.
He wrote: “3 of the returnees recently evacuated from Dubai have tested positive for #COVID19 infection following #COVID19 test conducted on them.
“Those affected have been admitted to @followlasg #COVID19 care centre for appropriate treatment protocols.
“@followlasgand @LSMOH will continue to adhere strictly to quarantine protocols and enforce necessary precautionary measures so as to contain the spread of #COVID19 infection.
“I again urge Lagos residents and particularly those who recently returned to the country to cooperate with our #COVID19 response team as may be desirable at all times and in all circumstances. Let’s continue to #StaySafe #ForAGreaterLagos.”
