President Bola Tinubu has convened a closed-door meeting with former governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, and Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom at the esteemed Presidential Villa in Abuja.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the trio of ex-governors arrived at the Villa around 2:33 pm but encountered a brief delay at the security checkpoint.
Interestingly, Wike and Umahi separately met with President Buhari last Friday, making this their second visit to the State House within a week.
During their previous encounters, Wike arrived accompanied by former Delta State governor James Ibori and Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, while Umahi was joined by the newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Speculations are rife that Wike’s loyalty and significant contribution to Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election, despite his membership in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), might position him for a potential ministerial appointment—an unconfirmed report as of now.
Akpabio, on the other hand, has emerged as the favoured candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the prestigious role of Senate President.
Meanwhile, Umahi, who recently concluded his gubernatorial tenure, is set to assume the mantle of a Senator-elect.
Meanwhile, the scheduled meeting between the President and opposition lawmakers, initially planned for today, has mysteriously been postponed, with no official explanation provided.
The reason behind this unexpected change remains undisclosed.
