The president-elect, Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, presented the certificate to the former Lagos State governor and the vice president-elect, Kashim Shettima at a ceremony in Abuja.
To win the 2023 presidency, Tinubu won 12 states, his closest rival Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), also won 12 states.
The candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi won 11 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) while the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso won one state.
Tinubu polled total votes of 8,794,726 to defeat Atiku who scored 6,984,520 votes, and Obi who garnered 6,101,533 votes.
Kwankwaso came a distant fourth with a total votes of 1,496,687 votes.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Tinubu said renewed hope has finally dawned on Nigeria”, adding that the country’s “long night has passed”.
