President Bola Tinubu has again urged Nigerians to remain calm and patient as his administration works to address the country’s economic challenges.
The President’s plea comes as protests continue to rock several states across the country.
Among other demands, the protesters are demanding the resumption of subsidy of fuel, which was removed by Tinubu on May 29, 2023, following his swearing-in as president.
In an official video released by the State House on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, President Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians, admitting that the transition has been tougher than expected.
He attributed the hardship to an “avoidable lag” between the subsidy removal and the implementation of his administration’s plans.
However, President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that his policies would ultimately yield positive results.
He said, “Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us and there’s no doubt that it is tough on us but I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture. All our good and helpful plans are in the works. More importantly, I know that they will work. Sadly, there was an avoidable lag between subsidy removal and these plans coming fully on line.”
“I plead with you, please, have faith in our ability to deliver and in our concern for your well-being. We will get out of this turbulence and due to the measures we have taken, Nigeria will be better equipped and able to take advantage of the future that awaits her.
“For example, we shall fulfill our promise to make education more affordable to all and provide loans to higher education students who may need them. No Nigerian students will have to abandon higher education system because of lack of money.
“Our commitment is to promote the greatest good for the greatest number of our people. On principle, we shall never falter, I assure you, my fellow countrymen and women, that we are exiting the darkness to enter a new and glorious dawn. Now, I must get back to work in order to make this vision come true.”
This is the second time President Tinubu has addressed the nation amid the ongoing protests and unrest. He previously addressed the nation in a national broadcast on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Mr president with due respect sir, you need to show workings because the rate of unemployment in this country is too much, unemployment can lead’s to criminality.
He said and I quote this hardship is tough but necessary. It’s more painful because the subsidy removal came in at a time when he resumes office and couple with his own policies he wasn’t to implement made it even more tougher. So I beseech you dear fellow citizen and country man that we look away from the present pain and hardship an conjoin with his administration to work and make Nigeria a better place to live.
God bless you our amiable President, your plans for our great country will definitely yield good fruits, those that understand are with you, you are really the Moses of our time.More strength your Excellency.

It shall be well with you sir, may God help us.
Thanks Mr President. Pls don’t disappoint us. We believe u and count much on your ability. May Nigeria succeed
You used a simple sentence to put us in hardship, and still making long propergander. You are not ready to correct your mistakes. Let someone try.
You comment portrayed how daft and derailed you are. Bcos, what comes out of s mans mouth, defines him. Bullshit…
Every right thinking person shall agree with your better future plans and visions but as for the politically brainwashed fools would prefer to die blindfoldedly than to subscribe on your better renewed hope for Naija. I wish you successful tenures as a president. God bless Naija
You got it right brother
we urgently need food,so please mr president listen and provide easier way to Nigerians
Fuel is 1100 per Little and u are pleading oga president plead with urself…let us enjoy our money because our money is not buying anything again..or u know hear say garri is 12k per basin? And how many days this garri go stay… reason me Mr Man….I no vote for u and I no take ur dollar
You’re very right, regardless all the good plan president BolaTinubu has for us I think he need to focus now than ever on the part of high price of food in the country so that the poor can breathe.
Be calm all will soon be over. He has ordered the nnpcl to sell crude to Dangote and other local refineries and once this is done ease will come and we all shall breathe a sigh of relief
Why you go but private jet for yourself? Why you no solve the problem since 1year, na now you de say all those thrash.
Mr President sir. These your policies looks good but they can’t solve our problems rather they will only worsen it. Take for instance, giving trillions to governors will only strengthen corruption. Likewise these your students loan & your conditional grantsIt will still end up a message. This is Nigeria.
None of ur policies is working…u brought severe hardship and hunger upon the people…
No refinary is working yet u renovated v.p lodge with 21billion naira when the citizens can’t eat…
How can you remove fuel subsidy without putting refinaries in working conditions first…
It’s a total waste of our resources by sharing palliatives like rice and other grains and conditional money through governors…
Mr President sir. These your policies looks good but they can’t solve our problems rather they will only worsen it. Take for instance, giving trillions to governors will only strengthen corruption. They have done nothing with these trillions and they will do nothing. These are fat cats who supposed to face the firing squad or public stonnin. Likewise these your students loan & your conditional grantsIt will still end up a mess. This is Nigeria.
This man don’t have solutions to the problem anytime soon his plan for this country is not of good always mark my words we are dying of hunger and your inside ac
Rule the living and not the dead, because majority of Nigerians now are a walking dead because many can’t afford 2 square meal a day. Some only drink water to sleep praying for another day to wake up alive. We know you have good plans for Nigeria, but a poor dying man with hunger only need food to survive with his family. Do something fast before Nigeria becomes a grave yard.
You’re very right, regardless all the good plan president BolaTinubu has for us I think he need to focus now than ever on the part of high price of food in the country so that the poor can breathe.
Nigerians, please non of us is not experiencing these hardship, the suffering is everywhere, but let us survive this and live to tell the story. Let us not destroy our own Country by inviting international bodies into our issues, we are not the first Country to have bad Leaders, we shall overcome all this difficulties soon. So lets be patient and be hopeful for better days ahead
