The federal government has commenced the payment of N35,000 wage award to civil servants, Politics Nigeria can confirm.
The wage award was part of the agreement reached between labour leaders and the federal government to cushion the effect of the petrol subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu in May 2023.
But the payment was suspended, a move which generated criticism from labour leaders, activists and other stakeholders in the country.
However, some federal civil servants, on Tuesday, have confirmed receipt of the November wage award.
A senior civil servant who craved anonymity told our reporter that some civil servants have started receiving the wage award for November 2023.
“Payment came in this morning, others have also confirmed receipt in my agency,” the source said.
Another senior civil servant in one of the Federal Government-owned schools outside Abuja also confirmed the development saying,” Yes, the November 2023 wage award has been paid.”
The payment comes barely a week after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) threatened to embark on a two-day nationwide strike over the economic hardship being experienced by workers in the country.
