The chairman of Ibarapa North local government, Lateef Akorede confirmed the king’s death to the press.
“Yes, it’s true. Kabiyesi has joined his ancestors. He took his last breath this morning. We are yet to burry him. We just left the hospital not long ago,” he said.
“This is a great loss for Ibarapa land and indeed the Yoruba race.
“We’ll miss your wisdom sir, your leadership, your love for this land, your endless support for anything Ibarapa. Indeed you were a great king that has the love of his people at heart. May your soul Rest In Peace,” Akorede added.
Igangan’s neighbouring towns are Ayete and Tapa.
On June 5 2021, the town came into prominence for attacks by unknown assailants, which claimed the lives of 11 people.
These killings attracted the condemnation of key leaders of the South West region in Nigeria.
