The Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the election of Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Governor of Plateau State and dismissed the petition filed by Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Goshwe had approached the Tribunal challenging the declaration of Mutfwang by INEC as Governor of Plateau State, alleging that Mutfwang was not qualified to contest the election because he was not validly nominated and sponsored by the PDP, as the party had no structure at the time of the election.
However, in its judgment on Friday, the Tribunal dismissed the Petition for lacking merit.
The Tribunal held that the PDP had a valid structure in place at the time of the election and that Mutfwang was duly nominated and sponsored by the party.
The APC and its candidate had also said there was overvoting in some polling units.
However, the Tribunal Chairman, Justice R. Irele-Ifineh, held that the issues raised by the petitioner on party structure were pre-election matters and that the petitioners lacked the jurisdiction to challenge it.
The Tribunal also held that the PDP actually held a repeat congress on September 25, 2021, in compliance with an order of the Jos High Court delivered by Justice S.P. Gang.
