The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Enugu has nullified the election of the member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, Prof. Paul Nnamchi.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the tribunal, in a judgment delivered on Friday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Nnamchi and issue a fresh one to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the election, Hon. Cornelius Nnaji.
The tribunal held that Nnamchi was not qualified to contest the election as he was not a member of the Labour Party (LP) at the time of the election.
The tribunal also held that Nnamchi did not resign from his job at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as required by law.
