The National and State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Kano has nullified the election of the member representing Tarauni Federal Constituency, Mukhtar Yarima, of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) over forgery.
Politics Nigeria understands that Mr Yarima was declared the winner in the February 25 election, defeating Hafizu Kawu of All Progressives Congress APC.
Dissatisfied with the election result, Mr Kawu applied, challenging the victory of Mr Yarima on the ground of forgery of his primary school certificate.
In its judgement on Thursday, a three-member tribunal panel ruled that the primary school certificate tendered to INEC by Mr Yarima was forged.
The tribunal held that Hausawa Primary School, which Mr Yarima claimed to have attended, had disowned the certificate as the respondent’s name is not on its record.
