The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) has struck out the petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the five-member panel of the PEPT, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, ruled that the LP failed to prove that Tinubu was ineligible to contest the election. The court also dismissed the LP’s allegation that there were widespread irregularities in the election.
The LP had argued that Tinubu was ineligible to contest the election because he was convicted of a crime in the United States. However, the court found that there was no record of such a conviction.
The LP had also alleged that there were widespread irregularities in the election, such as ballot box stuffing and vote buying. However, the court found that the LP did not provide any evidence to support these allegations.
The PEPT has now moved on to the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and it’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar after dismissing the on filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) earlier in the day.
