The United States Embassy in Niamey, Niger Republic, has announced the indefinite closure of its consular section. This unexpected shutdown has left many individuals seeking essential services in a state of uncertainty.
According to a statement released by the embassy on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, all routine consular services, including visa services, U.S. passport processing, and birth registrations, have been suspended until further notice.
The embassy has clarified that only limited emergency services will be available for U.S. citizens during the closure.
“During this period, only limited emergency services will be available for U.S. citizens,” the embassy stated.
The closure comes with no specified timeline for resuming regular consular services.
However, the embassy has encouraged U.S. citizens in Niger to reach out through official channels if emergency assistance is needed.
