Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), has agreed to resign, ending an unprecedented political crisis over his future that has incapacitated Britain’s government.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Johnson’s office made the disclosure on Thursday.
Johnson will resign following pressure from members of his government.
A number of ministers had resigned from the government, citing a loss of trust in the 58-year-old.
The resignations followed the latest scandal to engulf Johnson’s government — his handling of the concerns raised over Chris Pincher, deputy chief whip, over allegations of sexual misconduct.
Buckingham Palace will announce officially that Queen Elizabeth II has accepted Johnson’s resignation, and will say who she has invited to become prime minister to replace him.
Until this latest development, Johnson has been serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019.
