Some unknown gunmen on Friday used Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) to destroy the residence of Ford Ozumba, the Imo state Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, in his hometown, Umuhu, Okabia community in Orsu Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo state.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that no life was lost in the attack which happened in the morning, but the Commissioner’s house was destroyed by the bomb, causing it to burn.
Many residents say the resurgence of the activities of the so-called unknown gunmen in the South-East region of Nigeria in recent weeks is becoming worrisome.
The lawbreakers became a phenomenon in the zone in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests in 2020. Their activities then got to an alarming height up till mid-2021, but decreased before the end of the same year.
However, with the recent incidents in some states in the zone particularly Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, and lately Abia (a hitherto relatively peaceful state), it looks like the bandits are on the march again.
