Amid the internal wrangling in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday said his party will win the 2023 election without the support of aggrieved chieftains of the party led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Atiku stated this through Daniel Bwala, a spokesperson for his Campaign Council.
The aggrieved PDP governors, popularly known as G5, are Wike, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo).
The five governors and their loyalists in the party had refused to participate in the presidential campaign activities of Atiku, to protest the continued refusal of the National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu to give up his position for a Southerner.
But Bwala downplayed the influence of the aggrieved party members.
“Our party is poised to win the election. Wike’s non-participation would affect a little bit of the margin.
“So, if we are supposed to win with nine million votes or eight million votes, that may reduce to six million votes or something like that. But this victory is destined by God,” Bwala said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.
