BREAKING: “We’re investigating” – Twitter reacts to suspension by Nigerian Government

Social media platform, Twitter has reacted to its suspension by the Nigerian Government.

According to Tech Cabal, a statement by a Twitter spokesperson read: “The announcement made by the Nigerian Government that they have suspended Twitter’s operations in Nigeria is deeply concerning. We’re investigating and will provide updates when we know more.”

Twitter’s suspension was announced on Friday evening after the platform deleted a tweet and video from President Muhammadu Buhari’s official handle. The controversial tweet was a threat to people from the south-east referencing the bloody 1967 civil war.

In response, the Nigerian government through its minister, Lai Mohammed accused the social media giant of ‘double standards’.

Its worthy to note that Twitter does not have physical offices in Nigeria. The micro-blogging website is freely available in the country and has up to 2 million users, according to estimates.
