The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has finally broken his silence on the allegations of a secret deal with President Bola Tinubu to win the 2023 presidential election.
The former Rivers State Governor made the clarification on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ program on Friday night.
Wike denied any transactional agreement with Tinubu. He said, “I never had any bargain with Mr. President before I supported Mr. President.”
This clarification comes after months of speculation surrounding Wike’s sudden support for Tinubu, who was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election last year.
Recall that Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ‘G5’ group, had refused to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, alongside Seyi Makinde, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Samuel Ortom, who all were then his fellow governors.
The appointment of Wike as Minister of the FCT by Tinubu after his inauguration on May 29, 2023, further fueled rumours of a secret deal between the two leaders.
